Update on School Resource Officer at CB West (April 8)
We want to share information about the staffing of a School Resource Officer (SRO) at CB West and the steps the district has taken to ensure continued support for the safety and security of our students and staff.
Background: Establishing an SRO at CB West
The process to establish an SRO at CB West dates back to fall 2022 when the district first approached Central Bucks Regional Police. In spring 2023, formal discussions began with the CB Regional Police Commission, however in June 2023 the district was notified by the commission that an SRO could not be provided for CB West.
Despite this development, the district remained committed to ensuring an SRO at CB West and began working with Bucks County officials and the Sheriff’s Department. As a result, a two-year agreement was established for a deputy to serve as SRO at CB West; Deputy Landis began serving at the school in September 2023.
In January 2025, the district was informed that the Bucks County Commissioners were not going to renew the agreement with the Sheriff’s Department that provided an SRO to CB West after June 30, 2025. In response, the district engaged CB Regional to explore the possibility of an SRO through their department beginning July 1, 2025.
Recognizing the meaningful impact Deputy Landis has had at CB West, the district worked to include language in the new agreement that would allow him to continue in the SRO role if hired by CB Regional, which expressed interest in hiring him. Deputy Landis decided to decline the offer from CB Regional. We thank Deputy Landis for his service to CB West and the district and appreciate his continued service through the end of June.
What’s Next: Establishing an SRO for Next School Year
The district remains committed to staffing an SRO at West as an important layer of safety and security. We are moving forward in this process with CB Regional and expect an SRO agreement to be approved this spring. Once this agreement is in place, the district will participate in the interview process to help select the next SRO for CB West. CB West will have an SRO for the 2025-26 school year and beyond, just as CB East and CB South do.
